Business as usual: Defra has confirmed that “Ecologists should therefore be able to continue with outdoor work, including ecological surveying and supervision, where they can continue to follow Public Health England guidelines”.

Aspect Ecology is able to continue its fieldwork programme following modification to some protocols using our revised internal guidance and new Covid 19 risk assessment. This ensures that survey work is only carried out when necessary and that the safety of our ecologists is fully maintained when on site and travelling.

Clients commissioning Aspect Ecology can therefore have full confidence that field surveys can still be undertaken. Accordingly, we can ensure that survey windows for key species are not missed and project timetables are kept on track.

In correspondence to the Chartered Institute of Ecologists and Environment al Managers (CIEEM) dated 9 April 2020, Defra also sets out:

“We recognise that the cessation of environmental survey works would risk causing later delays in the development sector. We would like to thank CIEEM and other environmental professional associations for offering advice to help their members adhere to Government guidelines whilst going about their important work”.

We are currently in the short survey window for Great Crested Newt surveys. For more information on survey windows for key species and habitats, please download our survey calendar: CLICK HERE
